Ryan D. Nelson is the Deputy Assistant Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice Environment & Natural Resources Division where he has primary management responsibility over the Appellate Section. Mr. Nelson has argued a number of cases in federal and state courts around the country, including religious liberty cases. Prior to joining the Department of Justice, Mr. Nelson was an Associate with Sidley Austin LLP, focusing on appellate litigation and religious liberties law. After graduating from BYU Law School in 1999, Mr. Nelson clerked on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals and the Iran-U.S. Claims Tribunal in The Hague, Netherlands.
