Judge John M. RogersJudge John M. Rogers is the Thomas P. Lewis Professor Emeritus at the College where taught from 1978 until 2002. Since 2002 he has been a Circuit Judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Prior to teaching he was an appellate attorney in the Civil Division of the United States Department of Justice, in Washington D.C., from 1974 to 1978. He served as a visiting professor at the Department of Justice form 1983 to 1985. Judge Rogers has twice been a Fulbright Senior Lecturer in the People's Republic of China, in Beijing in 1987-88 and in Guangzhou in 1994-95.

He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Stanford University and a Coif law graduate of the University of Michigan, where he served on the Michigan Law Review. Judge Rogers has interests in international law, administrative law and constitutional law. His works have appeared in journals such as the Duke Law Journal, the Michigan Law Review, and the Vanderbilt Law Review. His 1999 book, International Law and United States Law, explains the limited but important role of public international law in the U.S. federal and state law.

He is a member of the American Law Institute and the Council on Foreign Relations. He served as the College's Associate Dean for Academic Affairs from 1991 to 1994.
