Roman Storzer is a partner with Storzer & Greene, P.L.L.C., has been litigating religious freedom cases since 1996, and is recognized as one of the country's most experienced litigators in religious land-use cases. His most recent cases include: a dismissal of an action brought by the NAACP challenging a medical clinic's policy of closing on the Jewish Sabbath in Spring Valley, N.Y., preventing the Township of Wayne, N.J. from taking the mosque property of a local Muslim congregation, a victory under the First Amendment and RLUIPA on behalf of a small Christian congregation targeted by Georgetown Township, Michigan, a federal decision protecting the right of a Hindu Temple to hire and manage its religious employees, a decision by a federal district court supporting The Church of the Hills in a lawsuit against the Township of Bedminster, N.J. in an attempt to expand its church; and preventing the County of San Diego from shutting down a Vietnamese Buddhist meditation congregation. He also represented the plaintiffs in Rigdon v. Perry, 962 F. Supp. 150 (D.D.C. 1997), successfully challenging a Pentagon gag order that barred military chaplains from preaching about legislation during sermons.
Prior to joining Storzer & Greene, Mr. Storzer was Executive Vice PresiPresident and Director of Litigation for the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty. While there, he represented and assisted numerous religious institutions, individuals, schools and other entities in First Amendment cases, initiated the Becket Fund's RLUIPA project, and authored several papers dealing with RLUIPA cases and practices.
Mr. Storzer received his J.D. with Honors from The George Washington University Law School in Washington DC and a B. Comm. With Honors from Queens University, Kingston.
