David Salmons

Partner, Bingham McCutchen (Former assistant to the Solicitor General of the United States)

Mr. Salmons focuses on appellate and constitutional matters. Prior to joining the firm, David served for six years as the former assistant to the Solicitor General of the United States. During his tenure, he argued 13 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and other federal and state courts, involving a wide range of commercial, administrative, civil rights and constitutional issues. He also argued a number of other significant cases in the courts of appeals and district courts.

While at the Solicitor General's Office, David received several awards for his government service: the Department of Justice’s John Marshall Award for Excellence in Handling Appeals in 2006, the Attorney General's Award for Excellence in Furthering the Interests of U.S. National Security in 2003, and the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Award for Excellence in 2005.

Prior to joining the Solicitor General’s Office, David worked in private practice on a number of notable cases, including Bush v. Gore. He is a former law clerk to the Honorable W. Eugene Davis, Appellate Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
