Mr. Ryan Nelson
Formerly of Sidley Austin's Religious Institutions Practice
Mr. Nelson has held senior management positions at the White House and the Department of Justice. He served as Deputy General Counsel for the White House OMB, providing legal counsel to senior White House officials with primary responsibility for appellate matters, regulatory issues and Executive Orders. He also served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice Environment & Natural Resources Division with primary management responsibility over the Appellate Section. Mr. Nelson has argued 14 appellate cases and numerous district court cases in federal and state courts around the country, including significant religious liberty cases. Prior to joining the Department of Justice, Mr. Nelson was an Associate with Sidley Austin LLP, focusing on appellate litigation and religious liberties law. After graduating from BYU Law School in 1999, Mr. Nelson clerked on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals and the Iran-U.S. Claims Tribunal in The Hague, Netherlands.
